COMMUNITY ACTION - LAG3

The Community Action Project for Llanelli and the Gwendraeth Valley, known as LAG3, is a grass routes community development project that works with Community Groups & associations to build their capacity, and to enable them to take an active role in the process of planning and achieving results within their communities. The project has been delivering this valuable service in the P3 wards of Carmarthenshire for the past three years. The Foothold Group work in partnership with Menter Cwm Gwendraeth to deliver this service.

From July 1st 2004, we successfully secured additional ERDF Objective One funding to roll out development work within the P3 wards of Carmarthenshire over the next 3 years.

What services does the project deliver to the community?
The project gives groups and individuals help and advice with, constitutions, policies, grant aid, partnership working; develops individual and group capacity, facilitation, liaison and mediation, project development, assistance with funding applications and aftercare It also sets up and constitutes new groups, provides signposting & general support. This list is not exhaustive and gives examples of the type of work that the project covers.

Who benefits from the project?
The project works in the following areas:

Llanelli - Felinfoel, Llwynhendy, Tyisha, Glan y Mor, Bynea, Bigyn and
Parts of Burry Port.
Gwendraeth - Penygroes, Trimsaran, Tumble, Glyn, Kidwelly, Pontyberem,
Llanddarog, Llangynderyn and parts of Cross Hands

Project Achievements:
• Assisted more than 200 groups
• Engaged 1,835 people in community activity
• Assisted groups to gain over £400k of grants
• Given over 12 thousand hours of support
• Supported over 60 Community Initiatives


What Projects/Activities have been supported?
These range from holding a local tea & coffee morning, to helping secure a range of funding applications to develop a much needed community centre.
