What is a Social Enterprise?
Social Enterprises have three key characteristics:
• They have a social, community or ethical purpose
• They operate using a commercial business model
• They have a legal form appropriate to “not for personal profit” status and social ownership
A social enterprise can range from a woodworking workshops and bio-diesel producers to community cafes, outdoor pursuits centres and child care groups. Like any other business, social enterprises aim to sustain their business and make profits – it’s what they do with this profit that is different!
How can Hidden Dragon support you?
Launched in March 2005, Hidden Dragon provides support for the creation and expansion of not for profit community businesses in deprived areas in the county.
The Foothold Group together with Carmarthenshire County Council, Amcan Limited and Community Enterprise Wales have been successful in attracting substantial European Funding to enable them to offer a package of support to new and existing social enterprises within Carmarthenshire.
Hidden Dragon aims to:
• Increase the number of community businesses in Carmarthenshire
• Encourage the employment of local people
• Increase the income of community enterprises in the area
The project offers a unique opportunity to gain access to a community enterprise fund worth £1.2million to support the growth of community businesses in targeted P3 areas of Carmarthenshire.
